Hockey stick curve Finance
Definition
Visual description of a company's annual revenue (or earnings) as presented to potential buyers or investors in a business showing rapid growth and profit potential with little historical data to back up the momentum.
Comments
Certainly more common in start-ups, but even mature (or established but struggling) businesses will often show growth rates higher than what has been achieved in the past in the CIM presented to investors. Most private equity buyers quickly discount such figures and construct models using much more conservative assumptions.
